Director of Finance

Job Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the hotel, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and tax compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage a team of accounting professionals.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Analyze financial performance and provide insightful reports to management.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop annual budgets and forecasts for revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, and take corrective action as needed.
- Analyze variances and provide explanations to management.
- Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Prepare and file tax returns in a timely manner.
- Team Management:
- Recruit, hire, and train accounting staff.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback and coaching.
- System Implementation and Maintenance:
- Implement and maintain accounting software and systems.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in hotel accounting or a related field.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and tax laws.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Additional Considerations
- Industry Experience: Experience in the hospitality industry is highly preferred.
- Systems Proficiency: Knowledge of hotel property management systems (PMS) and point-of-sale (POS) systems is beneficial.
- Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze complex financial data and identify trends is crucial.
- Attention to Detail: Accurate and precise work is essential in this role.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and resolve financial issues is required.
